Cyber Security and Ethical Hacking Workshop at Dronacharya PG College

Recently, we had the privilege of conducting an immersive Cyber Security and Ethical Hacking workshop at Dronacharya PG College of Education, Rait. The session was attended by 60 eager BCA 2nd-year students, all keen to dive into the world of cyber security. Here’s a glimpse of what transpired.

Cyber Security Fundamentals

The workshop kicked off with an exploration of the fundamental concepts of cyber security. We emphasised the critical importance of protecting digital assets in today’s interconnected world. Students were introduced to the various forms of digital frauds prevalent on the internet and learned how to recognize and avoid them, ensuring they are better prepared to safeguard their online presence.

 

Securing Online Identity

Nowadays, maintaining privacy and security online is paramount. We shared practical advice on how to protect personal information, from creating strong, unique passwords to enabling two-factor authentication. Our discussion also covered the importance of being cautious about the information shared online, providing students with essential tips to keep their online identity secure.

Ethical Hacking: An Introduction

The workshop then transitioned into the realm of ethical hacking. We discussed the basics and highlighted its significance in the cyber security field. Students were given an overview of the ethical hacking course syllabus, offering them a roadmap of what to expect and how to prepare for a future in this exciting domain.

Hands-on learning is crucial for understanding complex concepts. We introduced several practical tools that are indispensable for information gathering:

Cam-Over: A tool for mobile camera access, used with user permission.

Dmitry: A powerful tool for web information gathering.

IPQS VPN Detection Tool: A web-based tool to detect VPN usage.

Ethical Hacking Workshop

Engaging Q&A Session

The workshop concluded with a vibrant Q&A session. Student’s queries ranged from maintaining anonymity online to the use of the Tor browser. We also discussed Capture the Flag (CTF) labs, which provide a practical environment for learning and testing hacking skills. To wrap up, we shared insights into the starting syllabus for ethical hacking, giving students a solid foundation to build on.
